General Info

Tucked along 40 King St, Newcastle NSW 2300, Australia, Good Brother Espresso Shop has the kind of relaxed energy you hope to find in a neighborhood café. It’s the sort of place people wander into for a quick coffee and end up lingering longer than planned. The space feels welcoming for solo dining, casual meet-ups, or even a laid-back lunch with friends. From the moment you step in, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and tea sets the tone for a comfortable café experience.

Coffee is clearly a highlight on the menu, and the Oat Piccolo Latte quickly stands out as a signature choice. The balance between the smooth oat milk and the bold espresso is impressive, creating a drink that feels both rich and surprisingly light. It’s easy to see why regulars keep coming back for it. Alongside the coffee offerings, the café also provides a great tea selection, which makes it a reliable stop for those who prefer something warm but caffeine-light. The drink menu pairs naturally with the relaxed vibe of the location, making it perfect for slow mornings or casual afternoon breaks.

When it comes to food, the café leans into simple dishes that focus on flavor and presentation. The Bruschetta with Roasted Veggie Puree is one of those plates that instantly catches your attention. The roasted vegetables bring a subtle sweetness that spreads beautifully across crisp toasted bread. Meanwhile, the classic Bruschetta option offers a lighter but equally satisfying bite, especially when enjoyed alongside a hot drink. These dishes make the café a solid choice whether you’re stopping in for lunch or easing into the evening with a light meal.

The service style is casual yet attentive, which fits perfectly with the café setting. While the focus remains on daytime favorites like coffee and lunch plates, the menu also supports dinner options for guests who want to extend their visit later into the evening. In addition, the availability of alcohol adds a relaxed social layer, making the space feel more versatile than a typical coffee shop.

Spending time at Good Brother Espresso Shop feels easy and unpretentious. Whether someone arrives for a quiet solo coffee, a quick lunch break, or a casual evening drink, the atmosphere encourages people to slow down and enjoy what’s on the table. The thoughtful drink menu, simple but flavorful dishes, and friendly café setting make this Newcastle location a comfortable stop that locals and visitors alike can appreciate.

What customers say?

“ "Good Brother Espresso is a delightful gem offering a perfect blend of coffee excellence by day and a delectable dinner experience by night. I was particularly impressed by their spritz, which rivaled those I've enjoyed in Italy. Their wine menu is also noteworthy, boasting a selection that complements their dishes beautifully. A must-visit for anyone seeking a comfortable and delicious dinner. ”

“ I dropped by in a morning when I was there for a few working days in Newcastle I found this place via Google Maps and happy with the suggestion. Very good taste breakfast with choco chia vs berries and great coffee also The lady at the counter was so friendly while advising me the choices. Highly recommended! ”

“ A confusing start to breakfast with no direction on where to sit/what to order, but after settling in it’s a very cute cafe! We ordered the mushroom tempeh burger and the Turkish breakfast plate. The burger was full of flavour, filling and fabulous. The Turkish plate was a little underwhelming but nice flavours. Unfortunately there is no table service and a wait at the counter so getting anything takes a bit of time eg. some water for the table or previous patrons plates cleared. All in all yummy food, average service. ”

“ Smallish hipster joint for good coffee and food. Stopped in on an unusually cold Newcastle morning, while the outdoor tables looked nice to sit on, inside was calling to keep warm. The menu had a good selection on offer, think granola, bagels, toasted sandwiches. Visited on a Sunday and they didn't have the special of the week available which I had seen on their instagram. Nonetheless the ham and cheese toastie was good. Giving 4 out of 5 stars, a couple of things they could do better: Menu availability - my first two options they had run out of (special of the week and the chicken toastie), and then the person who brought out the food didn't bring any cutlery - we had to get it ourselves. ”

“ We stopped in here last night for a wine and share platter - so glad we did! The vibe was really calming and chill. The wine went down a treat and the Vegan Share Platter with the cashew cheese was DELICIOUS! loved the cheese and the crackers were so tasty along with the antipasto. The service was super friendly and intuitive without being in your face at all. I'll be back! ”
